How does TaxStatus work?

TaxStatus connects you to your clients' verified financial information

TaxStatus connects you to your clients' verified, IRS-sourced financial data without needing to collect documents yourself. With a simple process, you get 10 years of historical and up to 3 years of future information.

Before You Begin

  • You need a TaxStatus account. Register and activate your account at secure.taxstatus.com
  • You'll need your client's contact information so you can email or text them your consent link.

How the TaxStatus system works

  1. Send the consent link. You (or your team) send your bespoke TaxStatus consent link to your clients.

  2. Your client completes consent. Your client follows the steps in the consent link, which authorizes TaxStatus to submit a request for their IRS records on their behalf.

  3. The IRS reviews the request. Once submitted, the request moves into IRS review. This step runs on the IRS's own timeline — TaxStatus cannot expedite or predict exactly how long this will take.

  4. TaxStatus ingests the verified data. When the IRS approves the request, TaxStatus pulls in the verified financial information and presents it to you in a usable, organized format inside your workspace.

  5. Records stay current automatically. TaxStatus continues refreshing your client's records for up to 3 years, with no additional action required from you or your client.

    What Happens Next

Once a client's records are ingested, they'll appear in your Firm Workspace. You can reference this data for as long as it continues to update (up to the 3-year window) without needing to resend a consent link or ask your client for anything further.

In rare cases, consents need to be renewed. The most common reason for this is that your client has given consent for another person/entity to request their IRS records - this may be a CPA or other tax professional. A taxpayer also retains the right to revoke their consent at any time by contacting the IRS directly.

    Tips

    • Because the IRS review process varies, it is best to set client expectations accordingly.
    • Sending your consent link early removes the need for any additional steps and allows you access to client information when you need it.
    • The consent link you send is the same for all clients.
