Collect Consent Again

If IRS records won't update, you may need to reconsent this client

Sometimes the IRS removes permissions to taxpayers we previously had under consent. This can happen if the IRS receives another Form 8821 request with the same or overlapping consent periods as we requested. The new request could kick ours off.

If this happens, we need to submit a new request to the IRS. You might want to talk with your client first, as our request may remove access for another tax professional they work with.

If the new request came from your client’s CPA or another tax professional, they can use TaxStatus too. If they become a TaxStatus user, revolving consents will no longer be a concern. Refer them to sales@taxstatus.com.

Why would I want to gather consent again?

  • You have lost IRS access and need to restore it.
  • The IRS denied the original request.
  • The taxpayer's consent period has expired, and it is time to renew it.
  • The client’s name changed, and the IRS may not have carried the authorization over to their new name.

What should I do?

The process is simple - copy your consent link and send it to your clients.
